Is Air popped-popcorn (APP) healthy?
A cup of APP only contains 30 calories, popcorn is a fun, healthy and delicious alternative for providing whole grains in a balanced diet. Three cups of popcorn is a 1 oz. serving of whole grains, supplying fiber and complex carbohydrates.
Air Popped Microwave Popcorn
Making “air popped” microwave popcorn is a do-it-yourself technique. Two or three tablespoons of popcorn kernels are placed into a brown paper lunch sack. The top of the sack is folded over and held closed with a piece of tape. The bag is cooked in a microwave oven for a minute and a half or so. The microwave heats the kernels, causing them to pop using the moisture present in the kernels. Seasonings and flavorings are added after the popcorn has popped.

What if I don’t have a microwave?
If you don’t have a microwave, I used to make it with a pan. Just put corn kernels into a pan, and cover it with the lid. The lid is extremely important or else your popcorn will be flying everywhere. Then season it however you want, but go easy on them if you want it to remain a healthy snack.
What can you season your popcorn with?
There are many ways you can do so, you can flavor with garlic salt, salt, cinnamon, butter, chili powder or other sort of spices. It’s up to you and just experiment with a small batch at a time. But like I said, it you want it to be healthy, go easy on the seasoning.
Caramel sauce for popcorn (beware it’s quite sinful)
I used to melt butter + sugar to make a caramel butter sauce/seasoning and I would throw my already popped-popcorns (that’s a long one), into it to coat the popcorn with that sinfully-but delicious mix.
All you need is butter, sugar, a pan. Be careful to put on low heat and constantly stirring it in order not to burn the sugar. Try the sauce and don’t boil for too long as the sugar will burn too.
That was back when I was not watching what I eat. I’m not saying you can’t eat it, but eat in moderation.
Anyways, air popped popcorn is great for snacking whilst studying or when having friends over for party or movie night. Enjoy!
